Earlier in the month, ITMO unveiled ITMO.Online, a new digital learning platform with a focus on interdisciplinary subjects, advanced training, and soft skills. The service is available to students and staff of ITMO University as well as their peers from other universities and even independent experts working in relevant fields.

What’s more, any ITMO student or staff member can submit an application to launch their own online course. The team of the Center for Continuing Professional Education will provide aspiring educators with comprehensive support on all aspects of the course – from development to promotion.

ITMO and the Russian battery manufacturer Istochnik have collaborated on a new Master’s program track that focuses on the development and production of batteries and energy storage systems. The new track is part of Digital Technologies in Manufacturing, a Master’s program at the Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics.

In their quest to become specialists on matters of digital optimization of production, the students will learn the basics of electrochemistry and metrology before starting practical training in their second year.

The graduates of the Master’s program FoodTech Entrepreneurship have recently enjoyed the chance to show off their FoodTech innovations to the executives and owners of some of Russia’s top fast food franchises, health food chains, and production companies.

The students’ projects, which combined advanced tech and research with marketing savvy, ranged in subject from vegan foods and smart packing to… edible tableware and a robotic sommelier. Several of the ventures have already received manufacturing offers from the invited experts.

Popular Science

During last month’s VK Fest, a group of dedicated ITMO staff decided to tackle a serious challenge: to host a 24-hour, round-the-clock live stream during which experienced scientists would answer questions from event attendees, online users, and various celebrities. And it was a resounding success! In the course of the stream, a total of around 700 questions were answered – and now we’ve prepared a summary of the best ten: from “Why does time feel slower when you’re a kid?” to “Can you 3D-print a human?” Read them and impress everyone with your knowledge of obscure and fascinating science next time you’re at a party.
