Research

A group of scientists from ITMO, along with their colleagues in South Korea, have recently reported on their success in amplifying an exciton current by a whopping 80 times – no small feat! What makes this breakthrough so significant is its usefulness in producing next-gen integrated circuits for much faster (and efficient) data transfer.

If you’ve ever been inside one, you know that MRI machines are far from the most comfortable. Smaller, portable versions could offer the solution: they require very little space and consume less energy. Take, for instance, the new prototype MRI machine developed at ITMO – smaller than a fridge, it can be plugged into a standard power socket and can be used by patients with metal implants due to its use of a weaker magnetic field.

Education

As we mentioned the last time, PhD studies at ITMO offer a whole world of possibilities. Continuing its series of interviews with research supervisors, ITMO NEWS chatted with physicist Vasily Kravtsov about the cutting-edge work being done at the Faculty of Physics: from optics and semiconductors to quantum materials.
