• Science Conference for New Generation: International Sol-Gel Conference Starts at ITMO University

  August 26 marked the start of the 20th International Sol-Gel Conference. Taking place at ITMO University, it is dedicated to research in the field of solution chemistry. This is the first time that the prestigious event is being held in Russia. More than 500 participants from China, France, Germany and other countries gathered in St. Petersburg to discuss the future of the field, share about their experience, explore promising developments, and talk about their own research topics in the format of stand-up presentations as part of the Science Slam project. The main topic of the anniversary conference was supporting young researchers.

• International Volunteers at Yagodnoe: Results of the Ecological Raids Camp

  On August 3-17, the Yagodnoe sports and recreation center hosted the annual camp Ecological Raids, which attracted volunteers from Germany, Italy, Spain, Palestine and other countries. Together, they cleaned rubbish off the center’s territory, beautified the space and learned more about each other’s homelands. This has been the fifth time that Ecological Raids is organized, by efforts of ITMO University’s students. Here is more on the international volunteers’ expressions and this year’s camp.

• Results of ITMO University’s Admissions Campaign 2019

  The 2019 admissions campaign at ITMO University has come to an end, and the lists of students admitted into Bachelor’s and Master’s programs have been published. The entrants of this year’s Bachelor’s programs have exhibited traditionally high Unified State Exam scores: according to the Admissions Office, the average score per subject is 92.7 points, which is 2.5 higher than it was last year. A large percentage of 2019’s Master’s entrants are graduates of other Russian universities.

• ITMO University Retains Its Standing in Academic Ranking of World Universities

  On August 15, the latest edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Ranking, was published. Considered one of the most objective rankings, it takes into account the universities’ bibliometric indexes and the prevalence of prestigious awards among their graduates and staff. Last year, ITMO University made its debut in the ranking; in 2019, it has retained its position in the 801-900 range.

• The Experiment: Living Zero Waste for a Week

  No one is perfect, but some people still manage to eat a well-balanced plant-based diet, read a gazillion self-development books a month, meticulously reduce, reuse and recycle everything that comes their way, have stress management down to a T, and be totally mindful and present in every moment like the little Buddhas that they are. We are not these people; but in a hopeless attempt to drag ourselves at least an iota closer to that ideal, we’re introducing a new series, The Experiment, in which we try on different parts of an eco-friendly lifestyle and see how painful it is – so that you don’t have to. • Admission Campaign 2019 at ITMO University: Bachelor’s Programs

  The 2019 admissions campaign for Bachelor’s degree programs has come to an end at ITMO University, and the list of students admitted into tuition-free positions has been published. Entrants have demonstrated traditionally high exam scores in the fields related to information technologies and programming. This year, talented students from all over Russia also had the opportunity to enroll in one of the University’s programs regardless of low exam scores through the ITMO.STARS program.
