• Mile of Technology Contest in Ilmenau: ITMO Team Emerges Third in Drone Race

  Held by the Ilmenau University of Technology, Mile of Technology is an eminent robotics competition setting the stage for a technology-themed festival attended by over 15,000 visitors each year. This year’s competition took place in early May, with ITMO University’s robotics team, who received a special invitation to participate, placing third in the Drone Race track. ITMO.NEWS spoke to them about their experience.

• Gennady Korotkevich Wins Sobaka.Ru Magazine Award

  Sobaka.ru, a magazine about urban life, has recently announced the laureates of the Top-50 Famous People in St. Petersburg award in the Science and Life category. Among the winners is ITMO University PhD student Gennady Korotkevich, the champion of multiple international programming competitions. The awards ceremony will take place at the Sevkabel Port on June 5.

• ELSA: New Robot by ITMO’s Youth Robotics Laboratory

  On April 28, the Russian city of Tomsk hosted RoboCup Open Russia, the national round of the RoboCup 2019 international robotics competition. The event brought together 120 teams and 500 participants of different ages, from school children and to university students and graduates, including the members of the Youth Robotics Laboratory of ITMO University’s School of Computer Technologies and Control, who presented their new robot ELSA and took the second prize in the competition’s most creative category, RoboCup OnStage.

• Talented School Students Awarded at ITMO University

  On April 18, ITMO University’s Faculty of Secure Information Technologies hosted the awards ceremony for the winners of the сompetition in computer science, computer security, mathematics, and cryptography organized by the Russian Council for Competitions for School Students. The main prize of the competition is a chance to get admitted to ITMO University without entrance exams, and some of the winners are definitely going to use this opportunity.

• ITMO University Hosts Final Round of NTI Competition for University Students

  On April 18, the results of the Competition of the National Technology Initiative were announced at ITMO University. The event brought together students from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk, who had three days to solve three tasks focusing on such topics as mathematical statistics, machine learning algorithms, and distributed computing infrastructure. The winners of the competition will receive an opportunity to enroll in one of ITMO’s Master’s programs without needing to take entrance exams, as well as receive a paid internship at the University’s research laboratories.

• ITMO-VK Competition Winners Receive Prizes and Bonus Exam Points

  The past Sunday, April 7, ITMO University hosted the finale of the ITMO-VK competition held by the popular social network VK. More than 5,000 school students from 60 regions of Russia and the neighboring countries took part in the competition from the comfort of their home. On April 5-7, the 351 participants who passed into the final round came to St. Petersburg to compete for the main prize: 10 bonus Unified State Exam points to be used during admission to ITMO University, as well as MacBooks supplied by St. Petersburg City Administration, tickets to this summer’s VK Fest, and other gifts from ITMO University.

  Just recently, the award ceremony of the “I am a Professional” competition took place in Moscow. This year, 3,472 of over 500,000 students became prize winners. Over 100 participants received gold medals, including four ITMO students and one graduate. Apart from cash prizes, the winners got benefits for applying for Master’s and PhD programs as well as an opportunity to do internships at major companies.   The results of the 2019 national student competition “I am a Professional” have just been announced. From a total of 500,000 students from all over Russia participating in this year’s competition, 3,472 became prize winners. This roll call of participants with the best results includes 80 ITMO University students, five of whom were even awarded gold medals. Diplomates of “I am a Professional” get admission perks when applying to Master’s and PhD programs at Russia’s leading universities, as well as an opportunity to partake in an internship at major companies.

• “It’s Your Call!” Winter School Launched at ITMO University

  The Winter School “It’s Your Call!”, organized by ITMO University and Sberbank, has recently begun its second season. The school brought together the participants of the national student competition “I am a Professional” in five educational tracks (“Programming and IT”, “Data- and Cybersecurity”, “Big Data”, “Robotics”, and “Photonics”). 180 Bachelor and Master’s students came to ITMO University to compete and shared their expectations for the Winter School.
