MOFs for optics
Metal-organiс frameworks, or MOFs for short, are a new type of material that is currently being considered for various chemical and industrial applications. The staff of ITMO’s School of Physics and Engineering, however, have decided to utilize their potential for optical computing.
It turns out that the properties of MOFs are highly flexible when subjected to laser radiation. This makes them an excellent fit for optical processing devices, which are faster and more energy-efficient than the digital computational elements in use today.

AES welcomes first students
Less than three months after the project was approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, ITMO University’s own Advanced Engineering School is already opening its doors to its first class of Master’s students. In the next two years, the students will enhance their main studies with classes in data science and team management.
As principal engineers, their future task will be to help specialists from assorted fields work together on interdisciplinary projects. Their graduation assignment will be to develop a functional MVP and present it to the school’s high-profile industrial partners. A stipend program has been launched to support the first-year students.
Data-driven learning at ITMO
To coincide with the start of the new academic year, ITMO.NEWS has taken a look at data-driven approaches to education and how they’re being developed and adopted at the university. The staff of the Data-Driven Approach to Education Design summer school discussed the concept and explained how current and prospective students’ needs can be taken into account while developing educational programs – and how modern tech is helping us achieve that.
