Get connected
First, make sure you’ve joined the ITMO_Enter channel on Telegram where you can find out everything you need to know as a first-year student. While you’re there, join ITMO University’s official Telegram channel, and ITMO’s Student Services Office’s ITMOLNIA space. Our social media doesn’t stop there: we’re constantly updating our VK page with the latest news and events, and for updates on science and research, our Twitter is the place to go. Feel like getting an audiovisual experience of ITMO? Check out our playlist on YouTube. Another way to stay connected is to sign up for our weekly newsletter on the top right of our news page. Every Friday, you’ll get a letter in your inbox with the latest news and events coming up. 

Find your way around
Now that you’re connected, make sure you can find your way to ITMO’s different buildings. A map with the addresses of academic and dormitory buildings is available here. We’ve also got videos showing the route from the nearest metro stations to each of our main buildings. Every building has a fascinating history embedded into the history of the city itself. There’s already one video available about the Birzhevaya campus here, stayed tuned to our channel to see more. 

Academic life
Whether you’re about to start your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, there are loads of useful information on the Student Services Office website about your individual learning track and what subjects you can pick. The my.itmo.ru website and app (Google Play, App Store, AppGallery) are a must-have and must-use. There you can find your class schedule, check your grades and finances, choose your subjects and make use of handy ITMO services, including a QR code for entering the university and free scooter rides. Your next best friend is ISU, the university’s intranet system, most of your academic life will also be available there, you’ll be able to find information on staff and students, and apply for academic mobility. You’ll also have access to lots of university-wide updates such as grants, scholarships, and events. ISU is the place to get access to your university email address and the free campus Wi-Fi network. International opportunities
You might’ve just made the big move to St. Petersburg and aren’t planning on venturing anywhere else, but there are opportunities for all personality types. Study abroad at home is a great way to take some interesting courses in English with exchange students from around the world. You can also go on exchange yourself for a semester, or attend a conference or do an internship abroad. Every winter and summer, ITMO also holds special courses, attracting all kinds of students. If you want to further brush up on your language skills beyond your current curriculum, you can take a language course at the Foreign Language Training Center, or improve your presentation and research writing skills at the Academic Writing Lab. Enjoy your student life
If you want a vibrant student life, make sure you aren’t only studying. ITMO’s mission is to provide opportunities for every individual’s holistic development, so dive into your favorite sport, choose one or more student clubs you want to get involved in, and maybe dabble in some volunteering. Grab a friend and head over to the theater at a discounted student price, plan a trip to Yagodnoe or join one of the many camps next summer, and don’t miss out on the guided tours planned during the semester – announcements are made regularly on the ITMO.Students VK page.
