ITMO University’s Work and Study Schedule from March 28 to April 5
In accordance with the order of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia, Valery Falkov, over the next week, all universities in the country will go on vacation. The measures are to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection. For ITMO University students, the holidays will last from March 28 to April 5, 2020. The dates from March 30 to April 3, 2020 will be non-working days for all staff. The corresponding order was signed today, March 26, by ITMO University’s Rector, Vladimir Vasilyev.

ITMO’s 120th Anniversary: Scientists Look Back on the University’s History Through the Prism of Their Fields
ITMO University is celebrating its 120th birthday anniversary – it was on March 26, 1900, that a Mechanics, Optics and Watchmaking Department, which ITMO traces its history to, was opened in the Prince Nicholas Vocational School. Today, Russia’s first non-classical university is among the country’s higher education leaders and is constantly reaching new heights in international rankings. ITMO spearheads the development of both traditional subjects and new ones, and the contribution of its scientists can hardly be overestimated. It’s impossible to describe the variety of education and research areas present at the university, but ITMO.NEWS contacted several scientists so that they share the past, the present and the future of their fields at ITMO University.

First ITMO Highpark Objects Successfully Pass Public Hearings
The ITMO Highpark JSC has successfully passed its first public hearings for the conditionally authorized use of a site for the construction of phase-one objects of the new science, education and innovations-focused center ITMO Highpark in St. Petersburg’s Pushkinsky District. This site will be used for the phase-one construction works, housing a study building, dormitories, research centers, and a sports and recreation center with a swimming pool.

Crossing Single-Celled Organisms With AI: ITMO’s Art & Science Students On Interdisciplinary Art Experiments
The BIOROBOTY 019 team consists of four students of ITMO’s Master’s program in Art & Science: Alyona Korolyova, Marta Mikhailova, Viktoria Romanova and Svetlana Sidorova. In their work, they combine bioart, robotics, neural networks and artificial intelligence in various unexpected scenarios. Their project Physarum the Fortuneteller, first exhibited at The International Media Art Festival CYFEST-12, was chosen to become part of a major collaborative exhibition to take place in France. ITMO.NEWS talked to Viktoria Romanova, a member of the team, and asked her where the idea to combine bioart with robotics came from and where it has led the artists.
