The spleen tyrosine kinase enzyme, or Syk, is a common factor in the development of autoimmune disease. Its effects can be suppressed with special compounds referred to as Syk inhibitors; however, these substances themselves can be harmful to the human body. The search for new, safer alternatives can be time- and resource-consuming, which is why researchers at ITMO have designed an AI model that uses computational evaluations to predict the properties of potential replacements. The model has already delivered a list of 139 candidate molecules.

In modern physics, the uncertainty principle dictates that it’s impossible to know the pulse and energy of particles in any given space and time. This heavily limits researchers’ ability to study various phenomena in a dynamic state. But physicists from ITMO believe that they’ve found a solution: a model that utilizes multilayered calculations to analyze particles in real space and time. The team has already applied this method to several quantum phenomena, with many more listed among potential applications.

Urban planning is a science that deals with countless variables. Thus, evaluating the potential (and impact) of any new development can be a tedious and demanding process. Experts from ITMO’s National Center for Cognitive Research say that their new AI-based platform can help: by assessing projects on the local, city-wide, and regional level, it can provide a quicker forecast of their effects on traffic, infrastructure, quality of life, and investment appeal.
